Despite the pandemic, many businesses have opened since 2020, providing communities across metro Phoenix with new places to eat, drink, staycation and have fun.
North Scottsdale, specifically, has seen a number of new openings north of Camelback Road since fall 2020.
In June, we looked at what has recently opened in south Scottsdale, including a Hilton hotel and new Scottsdale Fashion Square shops. And in north Scottsdale, there are several other new hotels and locations for local-favorite chain restaurants as well as nationwide chains making their Arizona debuts.
Here are 18 new places that have opened in north Scottsdale and Kierland recently.

Japanese cream puff chain Beard Papa’s opened its first Arizona location at Scottsdale Quarter. The menu consists of a variety of shells and fillings you can combine to create your own customized cream puff.

The Buzz Eatery & Treats
You’ll find casual fare at The Buzz Eatery, including sandwiches, customizable avocado toast and salads. The addition to Kierland Commons also offers boozy options for adults.

Cat’s Pajamas Bistro
Cat’s Pajamas Bistro offers “classic Americana” fare, including sandwiches, burgers, salads and soups that draw from French, Italian, American and Latin cuisines. According to the website, reservations are recommended.

Chin Up Donuts
Chin Up Donuts specializes in “tasty and eccentric flavors” that use “unexpected glazes” and “non-traditional” toppings. Flavors include an everything bagel donut, “whoa wasabi,” “sriracha-cha” and “ahoy capt’n.”

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant
Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, inspired by Napa Valley wineries, is popular in the Midwest. The chain offers dining and wine tasting rooms. The Chandler and Scottsdale locations are the first to open in the western U.S.

The Craftsman Cocktails and Kitchen
Chef Chris Nicosia, an Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame inductee, leads The Craftsman Cocktails and Kitchen in north Scottsdale. The hand-crafted cocktail destination is in Hayden Peak Crossing.

Fox Restaurants’ Culinary Dropout, which has several locations in Arizona and one in Texas, can now be found at Scottsdale Quarter. The restaurant, where “food and music are life,” has plates to share, pan pizzas, draft beers and cocktails.

Hyatt Place/Hyatt House North Scottsdale
The combined Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels offer a total of 229 guest rooms in north Scottsdale. They have a heated outdoor pool, a bar and meeting rooms.

Lone Spur Café
Lone Spur Café, which until recently could only be found up north in Prescott and Flagstaff, is now open in north Scottsdale with “great cowboy food, great cowboy service and genuine cowboy charm.” The menu includes home-style breakfast, rib eye and sirloin steak, burgers and sandwiches.

Lure Fish House
California seafood restaurant Lure Fish House has made its Arizona debut with a location at the Shops Gainey Village. Fish can come fried or grilled, in salads, bowls, pastas and soups.

Macayo’s Mexican Restaurants
The 75-year-old Mexican food chain Macayo’s, known for its chimichangas, opened in what used to be Scottsdale Beer Company on Shea Boulevard.

Marriot AC Hotel Scottsdale North
This new hotel next to Kierland Commons is neighbors with the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. The AC Hotel Scottsdale North promises “European style with a modern feel” and offers a kitchen, lounge and pool.

This ghost kitchen operated by local chain Wildflower has a menu inspired by Asian cuisine. The salads, wraps and noodle bowls, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are available for local delivery only. There’s no dining in or takeout. The NOW Massage
The NOW Massage is now open at the Shops at Zocallo in north Scottsdale and promises a “sanctuary from the bustling city.” Their massage options range from 25- to 80-minute table massages with enhancements such as deep tissue and scalp renewal.

Pulque Fine Mexican Cuisine
Pulque, a family-owned Mexican restaurant, is now open at Mountain View Plaza in north Scottsdale. The menu includes tacos, calamari, flautas, seafood entrees and tortilla soup.

SugarJam the Southern Kitchen
Dana Dumas of SugarJam Bake Shop opened a southern kitchen in north Scottsdale that serves chicken and waffles, pulled pork mac and cheese, shrimp po’boy sandwiches and more.

Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea
Nationwide chain Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, a “coffeehouse that celebrates classic café fare alongside globally influenced coffees and teas,” has opened its first Arizona location at the Scottsdale Shops.

Tash (pronounced th-o-sh), a “Mediterranean-inspired tapas, seafood and meat restaurant,” has opened at Talking Stick Resort near Scottsdale.
In the O’odham language spoken by members of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, “tash” translates to “sun, day or time,” according to its website. The restaurant has a bar, patios and large windows that look out on to Scottsdale and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community.
