
Sweet Potato Gratin

A potato gratin with sweet potatoes and a good deal of savoury melted cheese!

- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1 teaspoon thyme, chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 teaspoon sage, chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried sage)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 3 tablespoons flour (gluten-absolutely free for gluten-free)
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 pinch nutmeg (optional)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- salt and pepper to style
- 4 lbs sweet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
directions
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan about medium heat, include the onion and cook right until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Incorporate the garlic, thyme, sage, paprika, and flour, blend and cook right up until fragrant, about a minute.
- Add the milk, bitter cream, and nutmeg, deliver to a simmer and cook right until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Incorporate the cheese and cook until finally it melts, about a minute, just before removing from heat and seasoning with salt and pepper to style.
- Distribute a several tablespoons of the sauce over the base of a 9×13 inch baking pan, layer the sweet potatoes in the pan alternating with sauce until all of the potatoes and sauce are in the pan.
- Sprinkle on the cheese and bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until eventually the potatoes are tender, about 45-60 minutes, in advance of letting it rest for 20 minutes and enjoying!
Choice: Use gouda, swiss, gruyere, asiago, or parmesan in its place of the cheddar cheese.
Possibility: Add 4 ounces product cheese to the cheese sauce.
Choice: Include chopped chipotle chili peppers in adobo!
Solution: Add 1 pinch of cinnamon!
Possibility: Insert or garnish with 4 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled.
